Summer Caprichos
My summer musts and my summer caprichos
In México, we use the word capricho for something that isn’t exactly necessary, but that we gift ourselves anyway. A little indulgence. A treat. Something we buy not because we need it, but because it brings us joy.
A capricho is going shopping knowing perfectly well your closet needs nothing… and somehow convincing yourself otherwise. It’s the little “gustito” that makes you feel spoiled for a moment. Not practical. Not rational. Just desired.
And honestly, I think it’s important to know the difference between an investment and a capricho. Between the pieces you’ll wear endlessly and the ones you simply fall in love with for a season, a mood, or a fantasy.
So this is my list of summer investments my closet will thank me for… and my summer caprichos.
GOOD INVESTMENTS.
The Row Gala Pants.
I first discovered this silhouette through the viscose version Almada Label released, and I became obsessed with the effortless shape of them. Eventually, I started looking for something similar in a different fabric — less shiny, less satin-looking, more matte and tailored.
The Row Gala Pants were exactly what I had in mind. The only thing I didn’t love was the price tag. Still, they became the reference point for what I now look for in relaxed trousers.
TOD’S Metal Dots Mocasin.
I didn’t know I was a loafer girl until these entered my closet. I had the opportunity to collaborate with the brand and instantly fell in love with how comfortable and understated they felt. They became the first loafers I own that actually live outside my closet because of how much I use them.
Usually loafers feel too “loud” for me — too many buckles, too much hardware, a chunky heel, or some detail I struggle styling. But the simplicity of this pair made them incredibly easy to integrate into my wardrobe. They just work.
Normal tops.
The kind that don’t necessarily catch your attention when they’re hanging in the store. The pieces that feel almost too basic to be exciting. But somehow, once they enter your closet, they become the backbone of everything.

Silk tops, crewneck tees, airy but structured button-downs… these are always the pieces I end up thanking myself for buying.
Statement long necklaces.
Probably one of my favorite investments from the last few months. I wear them constantly and keep searching for more brands that make pieces like these — especially the ones with fringes. They remind me of old curtains in the best possible way. I love how they can completely transform a simple, flat look without trying too hard.

Small bags… finally.
I’ve been a big bag girl for years, so I never really paid attention to smaller bags. But recently I got to borrow the Burberry Pocket Bag for a few days, and it immediately reminded me of the classic Loro Piana Extra Pocket pouch.
It made me realize that if I ever invest in a small summer bag, it would definitely be something along those lines: easy to carry, minimal, fits only the essentials, and works effortlessly with everything.
CAPRICHOS.
Now for the fun — and dangerous — part.
A floor-length silk dress.
For years I’ve dreamed about owning one of those long, fluid silk dresses that almost touch the floor when you walk. But every time I find one that is actually 100% silk, the price pulls me back to reality.
The funny thing is: I know I would wear it endlessly in summer. I just haven’t mentally justified the investment enough yet. Which probably means… it remains a capricho for now.
Animal print shoes.
Lately I’ve been obsessed with the idea of adding pattern through shoes. Zebra print especially has become a huge capricho in my head. Deep down, I know trends move fast and I might tire of them quickly… but every time I see someone style them effortlessly, I fall for them again.

Snake print feels slightly more timeless and maybe the smarter purchase. But zebra? Zebra has my heart right now.
Very high heels.
Always. Always a capricho purchase.
I think we all have that one thing we’re weak for when shopping, and for me it has always been heels. I convince myself I’ll wear them constantly, when in reality they end up reserved for occasions.
Ironically, the heels that do become real investments are always the lower ones.
Statement blouses.
This is probably the first thing that catches my eye while shopping. A dramatic blouse will always attract me more than a basic tee.
But do I wear it as much? Absolutely not.
Especially if it has a bold pattern, a strong color, or a very specific design. I’ll wear it two or three times during the season, and then it quietly waits until the next summer comes around again.
Extremely long jeans.
The kind that look incredible with huge heels. Every single time I wear them, I love the silhouette. But the reality is that I rarely reach for them because they require such a specific shoe to work.

And somehow, practicality always wins in my closet.
As I finish writing this, I realize how much this exercise helps me reflect on the way I consume. I think making lists of “musts” and caprichos every few months might actually become a ritual for me — a way to understand my shopping habits and the way I choose to spend money.
What I noticed through this article is that I truly value practicality, comfort, and effortless elegance. Anything that elevates an outfit in a very obvious or complicated way — a dramatic heel, a loud top, something overly “fashion” — usually ends up collecting dust in my closet.
So maybe this is also a reminder to myself: gravitate toward the easy pieces. The ones that don’t necessarily feel like love at first sight, but slowly become lifelong favorites. Especially when quality is the compass guiding the purchase.
What are your musts and your caprichos?

Me lo quedaría todo 🤩!!
